The 1980s and the 1990s
In the beginning of 1980, the Whataburger Company opened its 300th store. By 1982, the demand for the Texas Favorite caused three Corpus Christi stores began 24/7 service. By 1983, the company the company decided to add its infamous 'Breakfast on a Bun' , and then the 'Whatachick'n sandwich' as well as the breakfast taquitos to its growing menu.
In 1993, Mr. and Mrs.Dobson's son, Tom Dobson, became the Company's CEO and President. A the menu expanded, they began offering meal deals called 'Whatameal' packages, complete with cookies, biscuits, and chicken strips. In 1995, the company celebrated the opening of its 500th store and was recognized as the country's eighth-largest fast food chain.\
On May 6, 1999, the company opened "Whataburger by the Bay" on Shoreline Drive in Corpus Christi, TX. It's opening became the largest Whataburger store at a 6,000 square feet (560 m2).
